Star Wars Holiday Special Screens Again
What started out as a one-time event on a snowy afternoon at the offices of IFP-MN has now blossomed into a full-on holiday EVENT. Yes, MFTVB’s annual screening of the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special is on for the third year, screening at Bryant Lake Bowl on Wednesday, December 16th at 9:00 (screening begins at 9:30).
Even better, the event is now an Official Toys For Tots Event. That means we get our own marine to collect unwrapped toys from those attending the film. There is no official charge for this event but bringing a toy ensures you goodwill with the Marines, MFTVB, children, Santa and not to mention some good karma, if you believe in that sort of thing.
Last year this event was packed to the max and people were TURNED AWAY (so sad!). So get there early, toy in hand, have a cider at the bar and don’t miss out. In fact, maybe have several ciders at the bar so that when the part of the special starring Art Carney comes on, you’ll think it’s delightful!
Want to ensure your admittance that night? Enter the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL TRIVIA CONTEST and you’ll get a reservation for two at a special Winners Table. (Yeah, if you win you should still bring a toy.) Just e-mail your answers to these three questions to info@mnfilmtv.org and you’ll be entered into the drawing.
1. Which performer who appeared in the S.W.H.S. is still alive?
A. Bea Arthur
B. Harvey Korman
C. Diahann Carroll
D. Art Carney
2. What holiday is celebrated in the special?
3. On what TV network did S.W.H.S. air on November 17, 1978?
Entries must be received by Monday, December 14th at noon!

Man, I love this special. It’s right up there with PEE-WEE’S playhouse Christmas. I also like the PacMan one too! Bea Arthur was my favorite part of the special. Harrison Ford’s super thick makeup is really funny too!
