Certify your community as "Film Ready" using these four steps:

Step 1: Schedule a consultation with Sarah Gebeke, TV & Film Production Liaison at Explore Minnesota Film

  • Fill out this form to set up an online consultation.

Step 2: Designate a Film Ambassador

  • This is often a Convention Visitors Bureau or Destination Marketing Organization representative. No prior TV or film experience is necessary.
  • Complete online Film Ambassador training. Details about this training will be provided upon acceptance into the Film Ready program.

Step 3: Submit at least five, preferably 10, possible filming locations from your community into our Locations Database.

List your location

  • Show what makes your community unique
  • Only submit locations that are open to filming. Examples include, but are not limited to
    • Urban skylines
    • Train stations
    • Main streets, shops, restaurants, and bars
    • Cabins, lakes, rivers, nature preserves, parks
    • Farmland
    • Industrial areas, bridges, highways
    • Empty buildings - schools, community centers, government buildings - that are no longer in use that could be used as locations

Step 4: Finalize permit process and general guidelines

  • Our Film & TV Production Liaison can send samples of film permits that have been successful for other communities.
