Tony Ferguson grew up in inner city Minneapolis where he was exposed to professional mentors from New York, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis. In those theater programs, everyone collaborated and wrote, acted, and toured the plays they created. In high school, Tony played football and wrestled while also performing in musicals and plays.
At sixteen, Tony and his family moved to a twenty acre farm in Osceola, Wisconsin where they tore apart and restored the farm, planted gardens, medicinal plants, flowers, and herbs. While in high school, Tony became heavily involved with speech, theater and computers and went on to place in state theater competitions.
At eighteen, Tony attended the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire studying theatre and communications. There he engaged in exploring a variety of clubs and organizations and met Jim Vance, who mentored Tony in leadership and bringing diverse communities together. While fully embracing his writing and literature classes, Tony was inspired to give poetry readings in cities throughout Wisconsin also placing in leadership conferences with his writing. Tony studied abroad in England and Scotland for a year. When he returned, he explored a new direction in the studio arts which led him to Korea for four months of study. Finishing Cum Laude with a degree in English Composition/Literature and a Philosophy minor, Tony pursued graduate school in the Visual Arts.
While in graduate school at the University of Wisconsin, Superior, Tony met his wife Anna and started a family. Tony completed the coursework and student teaching for a K-12 teacher certification, yet found his expertise in the studio and teaching at local colleges. As Tony worked in the studio and gave workshops nationally, a voice re-awakened in Tony that pulled him back into writing. After being rear ended in a car accident, Tony had time to ponder his existence and remembers clearly the moment when he realized that film was the ultimate art form because it brought all the mediums together in a cinematic medium that evoked an emotional response in the viewer.
In 2010, Tony started the MFA in Professional Screenwriting program based in Los Angeles. Created by an HBO exec, Bettina Moss, Tony worked with many film industry professionals in the program including: Janet Jeffries, Producer, Lawrence Bender Productions; Nick Harding, Screenwriter (Doogie Howser, Picket Fences, Law And Order); Robert Potter, Playwright, Reader; Jeanne Rosenberg, screenwriter (The Black Stallion, White Fang, The Journey of Natty Gann); Elaine Chin, Vice President Production, China at Walt Disney Studios; Christopher Kyle, (Alexander, K-19: The Widowmaker, Serena); Sebastian Twardosz, Producer/Distributer, Circus Road Films; Erik Bork, Screenwriter, Consultant (From Earth To The Moon, Band Of Brothers, Deadwood); Chris Canaan, Screenwriter, (Robinson Crusoe, Walker Texas Ranger); and Kenneth Kristensen, Screenwriter/Transmedia, (The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and Todd, The Ugliest Kid on Earth).
Tony completed the rigorous coursework and is ABD while taking the time to research trends and narratives that captivate people and have the greatest potential for ROI. Tony enjoys reading conspiratorial editorials from left to right and everything in between including deep research, fringe, government, and other story sources that will have mass appeal.
When Tony isn't making pottery, shooting photography, developing websites or script consulting, Tony is formulating pitch packages, working on a Chinese Action Adventure story for the Chinese market based on his travels in China, and developing a variety of contained stories. He is also reaching out to producers to develop lasting and profitable relationships.
