Hello! My name is Kara and I am an actress and filmmaker.
I grew up acting on the stage in Wisconsin but got hooked on film acting when I was a teenager. I did little independents and music videos here and there and at the age of 21 made the leap to Los Angeles. While I loved the mountains, ocean, and the ability to have fresh lemons from my neighbors almost every day, I didn't like the film vibe out there. While some feel that's the place to be, for me it felt toxic - literally, because of the smog, but also because of the 'get famous' attitude. So I packed up my bags and with a sigh of relief headed back to Minnesota.
While in LA, the lack of exciting roles for women finally got to me so I decided to take matters in to my own hands and start writing my own films. And I am so glad I did!
Currently, I have two films in the festival circuit, 'fifteen' and 'daily mantra', that I both directed, wrote, and acted in. 'fifteen' won Best Coming of Age Film at the 2018 Frozen Film Festival in St. Paul, MN and it garnered me the Loren Savitsky Young Filmmaker Award at the 2017 Big Water Film Festival in Ashland, WI. 'daily mantra' has gone from Minneapolis, to London, to Montreal.
